- Description
Levisticum
officinale
Winter Hardiness: Perennial
Light Requirements: Sun, part sun
Height: 5 - 6' (yes, feet)
Habit: Upright
Where to plant: In the ground
- In the
Garden
Once established, this hardy perennial
will come up in late spring, quickly reaching its
full height by mid summer. The flowers may be cut
to encourage foliage growth. The clumps will
gradually expand each year. If they get too big,
it is easiest to reduce the size by digging up and
removing unwanted roots when it first emerges in
the spring.
- In the
Kitchen
Lovage is a major herb in Eastern
European cuisine where its leaves are
frequently used in soups and stews. Its
flavour is best described as strong celery.
